Nellie Rye age 92 of Detroit, AL passed away Wednesday August 30, 201 in the Hamilton Nursing Home in Hamilton.

She was born on Thursday, April 16, 1925 in Beaverton, Alabama to Isaac and Lear Hawkins Taylor.She was the oldest daughter of the family.She attended Beaverton and Sulligent schools.She met the love of her life, Cletis Rye, at a church singing.They married July 24th, 1948, and were married for 48 years.She worked as a clerk at Fine’s Department Store in Sulligent for over 30 years.She had a special love for fashion, and enjoyed her years there helping people. She also worked several years at the Sulligent Piggly Wiggly and as a clerk aid at Detroit City Hall.

Ms. Rye was an excellent seamstress and she spent many enjoyable hours at her sewing machine creating clothing for her family.She loved all types of needlework, and was known for her beautiful quilts.She also enjoyed cooking and gardening.In her active years, she attended Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and Detroit First Baptist Church.She was most proud of her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the apple of her eye.She will be greatly missed by her loved ones.

She is survived by a Daughter, Lenetta (Donald) Puckett of Detroit, AL, A Son, Connie (Linda) Rye of Starkville, MS,4 Grandchildren, Wendy (Scott) Canterbury of Fayette, AL, Wesley (Lauren) Puckett of Killen, AL, Danielle (Derek) Rea of Chesapeake Beach, MD and Nolan (Chrissy) Couture of Tuscaloosa, AL, 5 Great Grandchildren, Eli and Max Canterbury, Emma Kate Puckett, Gemma Riley Couture, and Lola Ferris Rea, a Sister,Betty Jane (Luther) Moore of Vernon, AL and a Brother, Franklin D. Taylor of Beaverton, AL,and2 Sisters In Law, Pauline Taylor and Maxine Rye McKay.

She was also preceded in death by 3 Brothers, Curtis, Luther and Daniel Taylor and 2 Sisters, Mary Lou Dill and Lula B. Taylor.

Services held Friday September 1, 2017 at 4:00 pm from the Norwood Funeral home Chapel with burial in the Cooper Cemetery.Bro. Bradley Long and Wesley Puckett officiating.Visitation Friday 2 - 4 pm at the funeral home
