E. D. “Shorty” Knight age 92 of Detroit, AL passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018 in the Generations of Vernon.

Born October 3, 1925 in Detroit, AL he is the son of the late B.M. and Daisy Gilliland Knight and the Husband of the late Mary Evelyn Brown Knight.  They were married on February 24, 1951 in Gattman, MS.  They lived in the Wesley Chapel Community and  was a faithful member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.  He was co-owner of Knight Brothers Sawmill with his late brother J.D. Knight.  They worked together for 60 plus years.  After his retirement, he worked alongside his brother Flois, doing carpenter work.  He later worked with his brother,  Leamon “Pete” Knight farming and helping with cattle..  He loved to mow the yard, gardening, fix his gravy for the Sunday morning breakfast at church and enjoyed his Sunday afternoon visits with his baby Sister Kathleen.  He was a Veteran of World War II having served in the US Army.

He is survived by A Daughter, Beverly Knight Jackson of Sulligent, AL, 2 Grandchildren, Christopher Brian Jackson of Detroit, AL  and Wendy Michelle Jackson both of Sulligent, AL.  He was a special Grandfather to Lori Nowlin Carter, Noah Lee Carter, and Bree Alexandra Carter all of Hamilton, AL  and Anna Katherine Rogers of Sulligent, AL, A Sister, Kathleen Knight Otts of Detroit, AL, 4 Sisters-In-Law, Grace Elizabeth Brown Scott of Greenwood Springs, MS, Stella Nadine King Knight of Gardendale, AL, Jane Gilmore Brown of Greenwood Springs, MS and Agnes Jean Blaylock Brown of Alabaster, AL.

He was also preceded in death by 6 Brothers, Flois (Rilla) Knight, James (Ruby) Knight, Raymond Knight, Leamon “Pete” (Velma) Knight, Elmer Knight and J.D. (Doris Nell) Knight and 4 Brothers-In-Law, Samuel Ray Brown, Willie Roy “Bill” Brown, Billy Otts and Buddy Scott.

Services held Monday, September 3, 2018 from the Wesley Chapel Methodist Church with burial in the adjoining cemetery.  Bro. Jason Clifton and Bro. B. J. Mills officiating.

Visitation Sunday 5 – 8 pm at the funeral home .

The body will lie in state at the church Monday from 10 am to 2 pm.
